Anxiety with THC? CBD can help
Did you know that some cannabis plants are not psychoactive? Cannabis plants can be split into two main categories: hemp and marijuana. Hemp is classified as a cannabis plant that contains less than 0.3% dry weight THC, while marijuana is classified as a plant that has greater than 0.3% THC.
Hemp and marijuana are the same species, similar to how a German Shepherd and bulldogs are both dogs while having unique characteristics and personalities.
THC vs. CBD
Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the active substance in marijuana plants that creates a psychoactive experience. Psychoactive responses are ones that change a person's mental activity and perception of the world around them. It is important to note that commonly consumed drugs like caffeine or nicotine are classified as psychoactive. The psychoactive effect of THC can instill a sense of anxiety or stress in the user, which people generally hope to avoid.

This is where cannabidiol (CBD) plays an important role. CBD in its nature is not psychoactive. Its effects are still debated amongst researchers. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, pain relief, and instill a sense of relaxation in the user. Some people have found CBD to calm anxiety and depression. For this reason, CBD is an excellent resource for people looking to find serenity and experience cannabis when they are more sensitive to the effects of THC, or they don't want as mind-altering of a substance.
The role of cannabis
I have observed that people often seek out and use cannabis as a means of reducing stress and finding a mind-expanding substance that can provide a pathway to identify more strongly with their true self. THC encourages this mentality; however, the effects can sometimes be too strong for the user and can counteractively induce a sense of stress and anxiety.
Finding balance with CBD
Nothing in life is fully black and white; our existence is about finding balance. Graciously, the way cannabis grows, it allows us to find a balance between the psychoactive effects of THC and the calming effects of CBD. Rather than feeling the need to add flower with high THC content to your cannabis experience, you may explore adding CBD-dominant flower to your herb mixture to decrease the psychoactive effects of your consumption.

CBD may also be used without any marijuana. This is recommended before mixing the two to get an idea of the effect that CBD is contributing. Once you understand CBD's impact, you may begin to try different proportions of CBD to THC flower to find the balance that is best for you.
Purchasing CBD
I recommend doing your research on CBD brands that are well-known, tested, and have positive reviews before purchasing, as some are superior to others. One of the benefits of CBD is that it is a federally legal substance for users 18 and up since the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. CBD is still illegal in some states, so make sure that your state allows the consumption of CBD before ordering. CBD can be found online or in some apothecaries, smokes shops, dispensaries, etc. Make sure you look into the brand that you plan on purchasing before buying; some CBD strains will have better effects than others.

The purpose of this post is to encourage you to keep an open mind about cannabis consumption. THC-dominant flowers do not have to be the majority of the flower that you intake. CBD is a means of finding balance between the mind-expanding effects of THC and the calming effects that hemp can provide.
